Mary (Zangel) Filzen Hlavac, 94, of 19 North Hazelwood St., New Ulm, 
died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the
Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the 
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

The Christian Mother's Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Friday at 
the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. 

There will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mabel Kral of Maplewood, 
Gladys Elrod of Stonyford, Calif., Shirley and Gene Gores of Redwood Falls, 
Donna and Hugo Balk Sr. of North Mankato, and Phyllis and Bernard Gulden of New Ulm; 
sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Filzen, Richard and Rita Filzen, and 
Roger Filzen all of New Ulm, and Walter Filzen and a special friend, 
Lorraine Kelly, both of Mankato.

Stepchildren, Belva Harris of Brainerd, Dorothy Mattes of Friendswood, Texas, and 
Rose Ranweiler of New Ulm; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 
and one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Veronica Brueske of the Oak 
Hills Living Center in New Ulm. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands;
three infant sons; three son-in-laws; three brothers; and three sisters.

She was born May 5, 1905, in New Ulm to John and Barbara (Fleck) Zangel. 

She married Philip Filzen and later married William Hlavac Sr. 

She lived all her life in New Ulm where she was a homemaker. 

She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a 
member of the Chrisitian Mother's Society in New Ulm.
