Joseph William Dobes' Recipes:
Bohemian Kolaches

handed down to Deb

1 1/2 cup warm milk
1 1/2 pkg yeast (about 3 3/4 teaspoon)
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 egg yolks
1 1/2 cup flour

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm milk
set aside. Heat remaining mild & butter till
melted. Remove. Add sugar & salt, cool ad yolks, stir well
Add yeast. Add flour slowly till stiff dough
knead till smooth, let rise till double.
Roll 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Either cut with
biscut cutter or 3 inch glass. Place on greased
cookie sheet.

Some Bohemian's roll dough out flat cut into squares,
place filling in middle & bring corners together.

If making round, place 1 1/2 inches apart let rise till filling
doesn't come out when baked.

Bake at 350 degrees about 12 min or till browned

Filling
Apricot, prune, poppy seed, cherry, lemon
or anything you like.

Note: when I make mine I use the sweet roll dough
& try to get the filling from running out when baking.
I'm still working on that.

Others have done it like a pastry ring with the filling
inside.
